Abstract
- Suggests that leading pharmaceutical corporations, driven by the need to maintain profits, are behind a worrying pattern of over-consumption and over prescription of medicines in Great Britain in 2005. Approaches to financing and rewarding scientific research; Studies on the declining safety of pharmaceutical services; Illustration of the problem by the case of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors that became fashionable during the 1990s despite findings that the drug was addictive and increases the risk of suicide.
