Abstract

A recent report from the University of Texas El Paso discusses new findings on sexual assault and the factors that contribute to men's intentions to perpetrate it. The study examined how underlying factors influence men's use of emotion regulation strategies, emotional experience during sexual situations, and intentions to commit sexual assault. The research found that men with greater hostility towards women were more likely to use a specific profile of emotion regulation strategies, which was associated with increased anger, impulsivity, and intentions to perpetrate sexual assault. The study suggests that future research should replicate these results in a more diverse sample and explore interventions to prevent sexual assault. [Extracted from the article]
