Abstract

The Ministry of Ports and Airports in Brazil has launched a tender for dredging the internal channel of the Port of Suape in Pernambuco state. The estimated cost of the project is $41 million and it will be the first stage of dredging operations in the port. The dredging will increase the depth of the channel by 16 meters, allowing larger container ships to dock and increasing the port's cargo volume. This initiative is expected to attract more investment and contribute to the development and expansion of the port. Danish shipping and logistics firm Maersk has already signed an agreement to develop a new terminal in the port. The Port of Suape is Brazil's busiest public berth in terms of cargo operations, handling around 22 million tonnes of cargo between January and November 2023. [Extracted from the article]
