Abstract

The British Cartographic Society (BCS) is a registered charity that promotes cartography. It facilitates the exchange of information and ideas among its members, holds meetings and conferences, supports cartographic education and research, maintains libraries and collections of maps, and provides publications and resources. The BCS offers various services, collaborates with other organizations, and has partnerships with different groups. The society's annual report provides a review of its activities, including council and committee meetings, membership updates, program highlights, and details of the awards presented. The Restless Earth program had a successful year, and the Society introduced GeoViz as a replacement for the Better Mapping program. It also provides advice and resources for cartographic and geodata visualization to the UK Government. The Society has special interest groups and is the adhering body for the UK to the International Cartographic Association. It hosts the World Cartographic Forum and publishes academic periodicals, magazines, and newsletters. The Society also has directories for map collections and corporate members.
