Abstract

A recent report from the SDM College of Medical Sciences and Hospital in Karnataka, India, discusses the development of Kawasaki disease (KD) in siblings following acute adenoviral infection. The report describes the case of a middle-childhood girl who presented with fever and headache, followed by mucocutaneous symptoms. Her younger sibling also developed similar symptoms after a viral prodrome. Both siblings had elevated inflammatory markers and echocardiographic changes consistent with incomplete KD. The researchers suspect a potential viral trigger, which was confirmed through viral PCR studies for human adenovirus. This research highlights an unusual occurrence of KD developing in siblings following acute adenoviral infection. [Extracted from the article]
