Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia aimed to develop a non-destructive method for evaluating the quality of Barhi date fruits throughout the storage period. The study utilized visible-near-infrared spectroscopy (VIS-NIR) to generate a quality index (Q[i]) model for the fruits. The results showed that VIS-NIR spectroscopy was effective in estimating the quality index of the fruits, and artificial neural network (ANN) analysis was found to be more suitable than partial least squares regression (PLSR) analysis. This research has implications for the handling, processing, transportation, storage, and retail sectors of the date fruit supply chain. [Extracted from the article]
