Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at Vidyasagar University in West Bengal, India, explores the traditional agricultural practices of the Chuktia Bhunjia tribe in Odisha, India. The study reveals that the tribe's agricultural practices are deeply rooted in their local ecology, beliefs, rituals, and knowledge. These practices, such as intercropping, agroforestry, crop rotation, and rainwater harvesting, contribute to sustainable food production and livelihood while also addressing climate change and maintaining soil fertility. However, the potential displacement of the tribe due to a conservation project poses a threat to their agricultural knowledge and cultural domains. The study suggests that integrating the tribe's traditional agricultural knowledge with scientific knowledge can ensure the sustainability of both ecology and livelihood. [Extracted from the article]
