Abstract

The article examines various critiques of Aristotle's theory of form and substance. One critique argues that Aristotle fails to adequately explain the substantiality of a substance and that his notion of form is unclear. Another critique suggests that Aristotle's assumption of a substance as a related entity leads to a regress problem. However, the article also defends Aristotle's theory, arguing that his concept of form can be identified with essence or soul and that a substance is a unified whole composed of matter and form. The article acknowledges that there are unanswered questions and that the discussion only addresses specific arguments against Aristotle's theory. [Extracted from the article]
