Abstract

The article is a book review of "Set Adrift: Capitalist Transformation and Community Politics along Mumbai's Shore" by Gayatri Nair. The book explores the interplay between caste, rights, and spatial politics in urban India, focusing on the struggles of the Koli community engaged in artisanal fishing in Mumbai. It examines the pressures of changing fish markets, the politics of development projects, and the changing demographics and practices in the fishing industry. The book also discusses the tensions between the Koli community and migrant workers, as well as the impact of policy and urban change on the coastal commons. It concludes by emphasizing the need to build solidarities between marginalized communities. [Extracted from the article]
