Abstract

This document discusses the implementation of a new takeoff, climb, and departure procedure for T-38 aircraft in order to reduce bird strikes. The team conducting the research developed a bird strike probability tool using data collected by a bird radar on the aerodrome. The new procedure aims to reduce the time spent in the bird zone and has been implemented in conjunction with reducing flying during times of higher bird strike probability. The team expects to see a 90% reduction in bird strikes, although it is too early to determine the exact impact. [Extracted from the article]
