This article explores the challenges faced by individuals with intellectual disabilities in accessing healthcare services and highlights the need for improved education and training for healthcare professionals. It discusses the stigma and abuse experienced by this population in healthcare settings and identifies barriers to accessing safe and quality care. The article emphasizes the importance of person-centered care, shared decision-making, effective communication, and health literacy in promoting equitable healthcare. It also advocates for the co-production and co-delivery of educational programs with individuals with intellectual disabilities to ensure their perspectives and preferences are included.
