Abstract

This section presents introduction to articles about religion and sociology, published in the December 1982 issue of the journal Sociological Analysis. The author's idea for the issue, Talcott Parsons On Religion, was conceived when Roland Robertson was invited to join the journal's staff as Book Review Editor. Two additional papers were solicited from Rainer C. Baum and Edward A. Tiryakian. Each treats a salient issue within the larger Parsonian corpus relative to the connection between religion and social life. A bibliography on Parson's writings on religion was provided. Articles published in the issue represent both critical and constructive dialogues with the ongoing legacy of the Parsonian tradition on the sociology of religion. Such contributions, according to the author, foster the inference that the influence of Parson on the discipline is likely to be substantial for quite sometime. The author acknowledged the contributions of several people for their help in lightening the load of editorial load which include Edward Henry, president of Saint Michael's College.
