Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at Boston University School of Public Health examined the incidence of posttraumatic psychopathology and its sex-specific patterns. The study included a cohort of individuals who experienced a potentially traumatic event (PTE) from 1994 to 2016, and compared them to a reference cohort of individuals who experienced a nontraumatic stressor. The findings revealed that mental disorders following trauma were wide-ranging for both males and females, with sex differences in patterns of posttraumatic psychopathology being more pronounced when considering pretrauma psychopathology. This research provides new insights into the mental health consequences of traumatic experiences and highlights the need for further understanding of posttraumatic psychopathology in both males and females.
