Abstract
- Aligning the skills addressed by higher education to the demands of industry is an ongoing challenge. This paper describes the rationale for developing and using a visualization application to highlight the skills demand and skills supply mismatch between work-integrated learning (WIL) stakeholders. The objective was to develop a minimal viable product (MVP) to be utilized as a visualization application. Visualization allows for the data to be structured in an organized way for comparison and pattern identification. Participatory action research informed the development of a MVP, referred to as a skills hub. This paper reports how the skills hub visualizes the skills mismatch through collaboration between participating higher education institutions, a multi-national financial institution, skills assessment partner, and a consulting partner. The research result is that WIL stakeholders benefit from the skills hub as an application that provides a visualization process to translate skills shared in the process of knowledge exchange.
