Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers from the Department of Otolaryngology in Waterford, Ireland, explores the relationship between body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) and cosmetic rhinoplasty. The study proposes a protocol that involves a two-specialist approach, with both a rhinoplasty surgeon and a psychiatrist, to diagnose BDD using the DSM-5 criteria. The study found that out of 1,602 patients seeking cosmetic rhinoplasty, 22 were identified as having mild BDD and 15 of them underwent successful rhinoplasty. The researchers suggest that standardized diagnostic protocols and understanding the severity of BDD can help manage BDD in rhinoplasty patients. [Extracted from the article]
