Abstract
- The BaSi<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>2</subscript>N<subscript>2</subscript>:Eu<superscript>2+</superscript> cyan-emitting phosphor can effectively enhance the color quality of white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) when it combined with red- and yellow-emitting phosphors. However, BaSi<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>2</subscript>N<subscript>2</subscript>:Eu<superscript>2+</superscript> phosphors produced via traditional solid-state methods exhibit low quantum efficiency. Considerable efforts have been devoted to optimizing the luminescence characteristics of BaSi<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>2</subscript>N<subscript>2</subscript>:Eu<superscript>2+</superscript>. In the current work, BaSi<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>2</subscript>N<subscript>2</subscript>:Eu<superscript>2+</superscript> phosphor was prepared via heterogeneous precipitation and thoroughly analyzed its thermal–humidity stability in view of practical applications. The main results show that the thermal–humidity stabilities of heterogeneous precipitation prepared BaSi<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>2</subscript>N<subscript>2</subscript>:Eu<superscript>2+</superscript> reached the level of commercial BaSi<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>2</subscript>N<subscript>2</subscript>:Eu<superscript>2+</superscript> phosphor. The external quantum efficiency of Ba<subscript>1.96</subscript>Si<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>2</subscript>N<subscript>2</subscript>:0.04Eu<superscript>2+</superscript> phosphor prepared using our protocol exhibited 63%, which is outperformed the current commercial product. This study essentially provides an effective method for the preparation of the BaSi<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>2</subscript>N<subscript>2</subscript>:Eu<superscript>2+</superscript> cyan phosphor for application in white LEDs with a high color rendering index.
