Sara, a math teacher, is relocated to Lugenheimer Hall, also known as the "Pasture," due to the efforts of the department chair, Vince Darden, to encourage older faculty to retire. Sara is joined by Hugo, a former superstar researcher, and Baxa, who was sent to the Pasture for refusing to change a grade. During a colloquium by Fields Medalist Armond Viglio, Sara, Hugo, and Baxa notice a flaw in Viglio's work. They confront Viglio, who admits the mistake and asks for their help in fixing it.
