Abstract
- A recent report from I-Shou University in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, has provided new information about atrial fibrillation (AF) and its connection to ischemic stroke. The study found that the left atrial expansion index (LAEI) can be a useful predictor of ischemic stroke in patients with AF. The research involved 177 patients with AF and a baseline CHA2DS2-VASc score. Over a 9.9-year follow-up period, 24.9% of the patients reached the endpoint of ischemic stroke. The study concluded that an LAEI of less than 35% predicted the presence of stroke with 77% sensitivity and 78% specificity. [Extracted from the article]
