Abstract

A systematic review and meta-analysis conducted in Sichuan, China compared minimally invasive proctectomy (MIP) to conventional open proctectomy (COP) for locally advanced colon cancer. The study analyzed 21 articles with a total of 10,132 participants and found that patients who underwent MIP had several advantages in perioperative outcomes, including shorter operation time, less estimated blood loss, faster recovery time, and fewer complications compared to COP. However, there was no significant difference in oncological outcomes. The study suggests that MIP is a better option for postoperative and perioperative outcomes, but further research is needed for more conclusive results. [Extracted from the article]
