Abstract

This article provides a historical and geopolitical analysis of the fall of Hong Kong as a geopolitical neutral zone between China and the United States. It explores the reasons for Hong Kong's decline, including the erosion of political freedom and the breakdown of autonomy. However, the article argues that the fundamental cause is the loss of Hong Kong's status as a neutral zone, which attracted capital and talent. The article discusses the tensions between the US and China over Hong Kong's role, but notes that they accommodated each other's interests during the Cold War and post-Cold War periods. The article concludes that the future of Hong Kong depends on the resolution of China-US great power competition. [Extracted from the article]
