Abstract

This article discusses the renovation of a historic terrace house in Sydney, Australia. The house, built in the 1830s, was previously used as public housing and was later sold for private ownership. The owners enlisted the help of interior design studio Duet to blend the traditional features of the house with contemporary design elements. The renovation respected the heritage requirements, retaining original features such as the cooker, laundry tub, and ceilings. The designers incorporated creative solutions to overcome constraints, such as using diaphanous curtains to enhance the small windows. The renovated house now offers a unique blend of old and new, with modern luxuries seamlessly integrated while preserving the heritage detailing. The owners appreciate the educational aspect of living in a historically significant property and enjoy the views and proximity to city life. [Extracted from the article]
