Abstract

A recent report from Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, China, discusses the findings of a study on basal-like breast cancer (BLBC), which is known to be an aggressive subtype of breast cancer with limited treatment options. The study identified a transcription factor called POU4F1 that is upregulated in BLBC and associated with poor prognosis. POU4F1 promotes tumor growth and maintains BLBC identity by repressing the expression of ER alpha, a protein involved in estrogen signaling. The study suggests that POU4F1 could be a potential therapeutic target for BLBC. [Extracted from the article]
