Abstract
- A systematic review and meta-analysis conducted by investigators from the Department of ENT in Lodi, Italy, assessed the effectiveness of Semi-occluded Vocal Tract Exercises (SOVTEs) in patients with dysphonia. The study found that SOVTEs were statistically more effective than control interventions in improving F0 (fundamental frequency) but did not significantly change shimmer, jitter, or overall gravity in the perceptual-auditory evaluation. SOVTEs were also found to be more effective than control interventions in reducing Psub (subglottic pressure), but self-assessment results were not significantly in favor of SOVTEs. The researchers recommend further high-quality randomized controlled trials on specific SOVTEs to produce better-quality evidence. [Extracted from the article]
