Abstract

Researchers at Jining Medical University in Shandong, China have synthesized and evaluated a series of carbon monoxide-releasing molecules (CORMs) for their potential as anticancer agents. The CORMs, which combine glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) derivatives with a lipophilic mitochondriotropic triphenylphosphonium cation (TPP+), showed promising antitumor activities in HepG2 cells. Complex 2, in particular, demonstrated excellent antitumor activities and triggered cell apoptosis through a mitochondrial pathway. The study suggests that these complexes may be potential candidates for the development of anticancer agents. [Extracted from the article]
