Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Liverpool has developed a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) protocol for the detection and quantification of Histoplasma nucleic acid in equine clinical samples. The study found that the PCR assay demonstrated 100% analytical specificity and a diagnostic specificity and sensitivity of 100% and 71.4%, respectively, when analyzing pus samples. This research is significant as it provides a more efficient and accurate method for diagnosing Histoplasma infections in horses, which can help improve treatment and control of the disease.
