Abstract
- This article discusses the use of computer-aided detection (CADe) systems during colonoscopy to increase the adenoma detection rate (ADR) and potentially reduce the risk of post-colonoscopy colorectal cancer (PCCRC). The study analyzes the variability in the effectiveness of CADe systems across previous studies and the contradictory results in real-life experiences. The researchers conducted a meta-regression analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to investigate the factors that affect the impact of CADe-assisted colonoscopy on ADR. The analysis found that patient age, ADR in control arms, and withdrawal time were significant predictors of the CADe effect on ADR. The study concludes that the variability in colonoscopy quality performances contributes to the heterogeneity in CADe effectiveness, and the implementation of CADe-assisted colonoscopy can help reduce the gap in detection performances between high- and low-detectors.
