Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine has examined the immune profiles of individuals with prurigo nodularis (PN), a chronic inflammatory skin disease. The study found that there are differences in immune profiles based on race and peripheral blood eosinophil count. Specifically, certain biomarkers were elevated in PN patients compared to healthy controls, and PN patients with higher eosinophil counts had higher levels of Th2 markers. Additionally, the study found that individuals who responded well to Th2 targeted therapies were more likely to be Caucasian or Asian and had higher eosinophil counts. These findings suggest that blood eosinophil count and race may be associated with immune profiles and response to treatment in PN. [Extracted from the article]
