Abstract
- Global shipping companies Maersk, Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A (MSC), and CMA CGM have been accused by IndustriALL and the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) of prioritizing commercial interests over human rights concerns by continuing to ship from Myanmar. However, Vicky Bowman, director of the Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business, disagrees with this analysis and argues that the provision of shipping services by these companies supports jobs and helps the country survive its growing humanitarian crisis. Maersk has stated that it is following the situation closely, prioritizing the health and wellbeing of its employees, and complying with all sanctions imposed against the military regime in Myanmar.
