Abstract

The article aimed to discover the most prominent semiotic indications of optics and technical attachments that accompanied the popular protests that took place in Iraq at the end of 2019 and how the protesters employed their writings and arts to embody the protest situation through graffiti semiotically. The researcher adopted the qualitative and critical approach to address the problem of the article. The researcher treated more than 20 pictures, artistic drawings, and murals drawn by protest artists, and the researcher reached a set of conclusions, the most important of which are: The protest artists employed their artistic abilities to provide clear messages in a high-level artistic way in which they expressed the protesters' goals and demands. It also became clear from the results of the article that some of Al-Graffini's semiotics were supported by linguistic, patriotic, and ethical messages, all of which indicate the eligibility of the demands, the peacefulness of the means, and the legitimacy of the protest.
