Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at Annamalai University in Tamil Nadu, India, focused on evaluating the phytochemistry and therapeutic potential of the ethanolic extract of Gymnostachyum febrifugum Benth, a plant from the Acanthaceae family. The study found that the extract contained flavonoids, tannins, phenolics, and steroids, and exhibited high antioxidant properties. Additionally, the extract showed hepatoprotective potential when tested on Hep G2 cells induced with hepatotoxicity. Chemical characterization of the extract revealed the presence of various known and unknown compounds. The research provides valuable insights into the chemical composition and potential medicinal properties of this traditional medicinal plant. [Extracted from the article]
