Abstract

This article, titled "Editorial: Pathogenic roles of T cells in autoimmunity," explores the role of T cells in autoimmune diseases. The immune system has mechanisms in place to prevent self-reactive T and B lymphocytes from causing autoimmune diseases, but these mechanisms are imperfect. Helper T cells, specifically CD4 T cells, play a crucial role in the development of autoimmune diseases. The article discusses the different subsets of helper T cells and their functions, as well as the potential for targeting pathogenic T cells in the treatment and prevention of autoimmune diseases. The research topic also includes papers on the pathogenic roles of T cells in specific autoimmune diseases such as vitiligo, idiopathic inflammatory myopathies, and primary Sjogren Syndrome.
