Abstract

Major central banks in advanced economies are expected to reverse less than half of the interest-rate hikes they implemented in the past two years, with only 575 basis points of reductions projected by the end of 2025. This outlook has been influenced by the strong performance of the US economy and higher-than-expected inflation readings. The investment landscape has been reshaped, providing opportunities for investors to lock in high yields and make relative-value bets as some central banks ease monetary policy before others. The Federal Reserve, European Central Bank, Bank of England, and Bank of Japan are expected to conduct a cumulative amount of around $3 trillion worth of quantitative tightening by 2025, requiring private-sector investors to absorb government debt.
