Abstract

The article discusses the process of biomass pyrolysis and the importance of kinetic modeling in understanding and optimizing this process. Pyrolysis is a thermal conversion method that can produce solid and liquid biofuels, as well as raw materials for bio-based products. The distribution and quality of the products depend on the properties of the biomass and the thermal conditions used. However, there are challenges in accurately determining the kinetics of pyrolysis reactions due to factors such as the variability of biomass composition and the presence of catalysts. The article also provides an overview of nine research papers published in a special issue of the journal Processes, which cover topics such as the devolatilization behavior of different biomass feedstocks, the effects of torrefaction pretreatment, and the influence of catalysts on conversion dynamics.
