Abstract: There are certain concepts of abuse that are unique in the adolescent and young adult age groups. In this review paper, a number of these concepts are discussed including: epidemiology, risk factors, consequences of abuse, concepts of screening, adolescent males as perpetrators of abuse, and management of abuse, including with pharmacologic agents.
