Abstract

A recent study conducted at the University of Crete in Greece explored the association between levels of loneliness, laboratory measurements, and behavioral aspects in a primary care setting. The study found that engaging in individual sports or activities and having more social contacts were associated with lower levels of loneliness. On the other hand, alcohol consumption was linked to increased loneliness. Additionally, elevated triglyceride levels were associated with moderate or no loneliness, while an increased LDL/HDL atherosclerotic index was related to increased subjective loneliness. The study highlights the need for holistic approaches involving primary care personnel to address loneliness, considering its multifaceted nature and diverse contributing factors.
