Abstract

This document contains two book reviews. The first review discusses "Power and Progress: Our Thousand-Year Struggle over Technology and Prosperity" by Daron Acemoglu and Simon Johnson. The book argues that the impact of new technologies on prosperity is influenced by economic, social, and political choices, and provides historical case studies as evidence. The reviewer questions some of the authors' assumptions and emphasizes the need for regulation to address the negative consequences of technological advancements. The second review is about a book written by a political prisoner in Myanmar, which details his experiences in prison. The reviewer criticizes the lack of introspective analysis and explanation of the author's mental trauma in the book, but praises the author's wife for her advocacy efforts.
