Abstract

This document is an editorial published in the journal Frontiers in Plant Science. It discusses the molecular characterization of humic substances (HS) and the regulatory processes activated in plants. The excessive use of synthetic fertilizers in agriculture has had detrimental effects on soil properties and the environment. Biostimulants, such as HS, have gained interest in sustainable agriculture practices. The editorial highlights recent studies on the biological activity of HS and their effects on plant growth and nutrition. It also emphasizes the need for further research to understand the mode of action of HS in long-term field trials. [Extracted from the article]
