Abstract

A systematic review and meta-analysis conducted by researchers from the University of Miami evaluated the efficacy and safety of bezafibrate (BZF) alone or in combination with ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) in patients with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC). The study found that BZF alone or in combination with UDCA improved liver biochemistries in PBC patients, specifically showing a significant improvement in serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) levels. However, the effect on mortality, liver-related complications, and quality of life remains unknown. The study highlights the need for further research in these areas. [Extracted from the article]
