Abstract

This document is an editorial from the Vadose Zone Journal, announcing a special section on soil physics in agricultural production, water resources, and waste management. The special section includes nine papers, some of which focus on African scenarios. The papers cover topics such as catchment hydrology, modeling of hydrological processes, uncertainty in modeling and measuring vadose zone hydrological processes, and nutrient dynamics. The special section aims to advance soil physics knowledge and its practical applications in agricultural and environmental management. The editorial also acknowledges the contributions of the authors and the legacy of Don and Betty Kirkham, who supported the 2022 Kirkham conference where the research was presented.
