Abstract
- Recent flooding in Texas has posed challenges for livestock producers and individuals in low-lying areas. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Disaster Assessment and Recovery program is offering assistance to producers as they begin recovery efforts. Livestock producers and landowners may encounter displaced animals, and it is important to report any stranded or stray cattle to local authorities. Livestock owners may be eligible for federal assistance and should document all pertinent information regarding livestock losses. The Livestock Indemnity Program provides indemnity payments for livestock killed in floods, and the Texas Department of Agriculture's STAR Fund application is open for this event. Guidelines for carcass disposal are available from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. [Extracted from the article]
