Abstract

The Boom Gate Gallery in Sydney is currently hosting the Paper Chained International exhibition, featuring 107 artworks from prisoners in eight different countries. The exhibition includes a variety of artwork, from paintings to embroideries, and aims to showcase the creativity of incarcerated individuals. However, prisoners face numerous challenges in creating and sharing their art, including restrictions on materials and difficulties in sending artwork out of prison. The exhibition also highlights the disproportionate representation of Indigenous artists in the prison system and the lack of art education programs for inmates. [Extracted from the article]
