Abstract

The topic of the paper is the comparative and contrastive study of some selected paremiological units in the field of foreign language teaching. The starting point is the paremiological minimum (PM), which is one of the key concepts of current paremiodidactics and a useful tool in teaching L1 as well as L2/FL. The attention is focused on Italian and Slovak, two languages having different origin, but sharing a common European geographical and cultural context, including the most important literary sources. Since Italian does not currently have (apart from some partial attempts) a PM, the PM available for Slovak is taken as a starting point. The goal of the paper is to examine a group of animal proverbs and identify the most appropriate correspondences in Italian. Study contributes to a deeper knowledge of proverbs as well as cultural knowledge in Slovak - Italian perspective. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
