Abstract

Researchers from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia have published a new study on nerve tissue proteins, specifically focusing on alpha-synucleinopathy, a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the accumulation of aggregated alpha-synuclein in brain cells. The study used positron emission tomography (PET) with a reactive oxygen species (ROS)-sensitive radiotracer to detect oxidative stress in a mouse model of synucleinopathy. The results showed that oxidative stress is an early and chronic process in the development of synucleinopathy, and PET imaging with the radiotracer holds promise for noninvasive detection of aSyn-associated oxidative stress.
