Abstract
- A review published in the Harvard Review of Psychiatry suggests that certain combinations of medication or psychotherapy, along with transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) or transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), may be effective in treating major depressive disorder (MDD). TMS, which was approved by the FDA in 2008, uses magnetic fields to stimulate the brain, while tDCS uses weak electrical currents. Although tDCS is not yet FDA-approved, it shows promise due to its portability. The authors of the review emphasize the need for more sophisticated trial designs and randomized controlled trials to further advance the field. [Extracted from the article]
