Abstract
- CTAB and PVP-capped CdS microstructures have been synthesized hydrothermally along with uncapped CdS microstructure and the effects of CTAB and PVP on morphological and optical properties of synthesized microstructures have been investigated. The X-ray diffraction analysis has elucidated hexagonal phase dominance with the average estimated crystalline size of 9, 9, and 10 nm, respectively, for CTAB and PVP-capped nanocrystalline. HRSEM images confirm the formation of flower-like and popcorn-like morphology decorated with small nanocrystalline for CTAB and PVP-capped CdS microstructure, respectively. The elemental analysis carried out through EDX spectroscopy confirms the presence of Cd and S without any impurities. The UV–Vis spectrum displays a noticeable red shift for all three samples as compared to bulk CdS (2.42 eV). The photoluminescence spectrum demonstrates emission peaks centered at 468, 571, and 598 nm corresponding to the blue, yellow-green, and orange regions, respectively. Furthermore, the vibrational characteristics of the synthesized CdS samples have been also investigated using FTIR spectroscopy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
