Abstract
- Researchers at the Institute of Medicinal Plant Development in Beijing, China have discovered that Notoginsenoside R1 (NG-R1), a component of Panax notoginseng, can effectively alleviate cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. The study found that NG-R1 treatment reduced neuronal death and neuroinflammation in models of middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (MCAO/R). Additionally, NG-R1 treatment restored the structure of the blood-brain barrier and reduced neuroinflammation by suppressing the toll-like receptor 4/myeloid differentiation primary response 88/nuclear factor kappa B (TLR4/MyD88/NF-kappa B) signaling pathway. These findings provide insight into the mechanisms by which NG-R1 improves stroke outcomes and suggest potential clinical applications for Panax notoginseng saponins. [Extracted from the article]
