Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at Lebanese University found that leftover antibiotics are prevalent in Lebanese households, with nearly a quarter of families surveyed having leftover antibiotics. The most common type of antibiotic found was penicillin, and the majority of leftover antibiotics were in the form of tablets and capsules with valid expiration dates. The study also revealed that self-medication with leftover antibiotics was reported by 42.37% of families. The researchers recommend launching public educational campaigns to promote proper antibiotic use and disposal, as well as implementing regulations to restrict the distribution of antibiotics without a prescription.
