Abstract

A new study from the University of Utah explores the use of the WHISTLE flap procedure for correcting secondary cleft lip deformities. The procedure involves the use of tailored mucomuscular flaps and a mucosal Z-plasty to improve cosmetic outcomes. The study found that the WHISTLE flap procedure resulted in satisfactory postoperative cosmetic appearance in 90.1% of cases, with no functional deficits reported. The researchers suggest that the procedure can be considered as the primary treatment for most patients with a whistle deformity. [Extracted from the article]
