Abstract
- A patent has been issued for a method of biosynthesizing diosmin and/or hesperidin in a microorganism. The current method of producing the medicament Daflon involves extracting flavonoids from orange peels and undergoing a chemical process to transform hesperidin into diosmin. However, this method is dependent on the availability of purified orange flavonoid extract, which can vary due to various factors. The inventors have developed a recombinant microorganism that contains specific nucleic acid sequences capable of producing diosmin and hesperidin. This alternative method could provide a more reliable and consistent supply of these compounds. [Extracted from the article]
