Abstract
- A recent study conducted by the Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology of the Russian Academy of Sciences explores the role of sirtuins in the development and pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases. Sirtuins are a family of proteins involved in regulating various intracellular processes, and disruptions in their functions have been linked to the development of diseases such as metabolic disorders, cardiovascular pathologies, musculoskeletal diseases, and neurodegeneration. The study highlights the potential of pharmacological agents that modulate the activity of sirtuins as promising targets for the prevention and therapy of age-related diseases. The research provides valuable insights into the effects of sirtuins on neurodegenerative diseases and summarizes the findings of clinical trials on pharmacological agents targeting sirtuins.
